This is pretty different from my normal hair blogs, but I want to get across that having the ultimate healthy hair encompass a healthy lifestyle. It is not just about what you put on your hair but also how you treat your body, but you can’t go wrong with great products...haha
Moms have a hard time fitting in exercise. That seems like the least important thing on our to do list. There are parent teacher conferences, after school programs, PTA board meetings, extra curriculum activities, preparing dinner, washing clothes, ironing school clothes, making lunches.. Ok, so you get it, the list goes on and on. Mom has a mommy to do list and a wife to do list, plus work a full time job. When can we actually exercise? The answer is, find out what works for you.
None the less, if you are out there wondering what can I do to try and stay fit without leaving my house and something that doesn’t take a lot of time, because my time is of the essence? I will state some simple things I do that may help you. Know that what you put in your body is a huge part of it but once you get to moving all that will fall into place. It is psychological, once you actually get to exercising you will start to become more aware of what you eat and you will automatically make some changes yourself. Therefore I will stick to just exercising.
All of my workouts are seasonal, I rotate. I do this because it keeps my joints healthy, especially since I run and it keeps it interesting and fresh, I won’t get bored. The following are my workouts;
Workout cardio, strength and yoga training videos. I have a slew of workout videos. My favorite right now is daily burn, this is actually on TV that you pay a monthly fee for. But this has different trainers, and different workouts that you can do everyday. I love workout videos, because I never do the same thing and because my kids are right there in the family room doing it with me, so it becomes a bonding time, teaching time (they learn that staying fit is important) and fitness time. And for the most part it is only 30 minutes.
Running. Running is the ultimate cardio workout. It works your entire body and it is very good for your heart. I started running a few years ago with the intention to run a marathon, and that is what I did. I wanted to at least run one since my mom did 6. Goal accomplished. I probably will not do a marathon any time soon just because it is very time consuming, but I continue to run. I like running because when I need a quick workout and don’t have much time, I run in my neighborhood for 20-30 minutes and I am back, if I don’t run I just do several sprints up and down my block, and fun part, my kids try to beat me..haha
Jump roping. I believe this is my most favorite exercise. It is said that you would have to run an 8 minute mile in order to burn as many calories with jump roping. Jumping rope burns a lot of calories, it builds strength, endurance and is very good for the heart, on top of that, it is low impact if it is done correctly. It is said that running is high impact on your joints because of the heel, but when you jump rope you always remain on your toes, which is not a big impact to your joints. I only jump rope 2 months out the year, but I enjoy it. You kind of feel like a kid again. Best part about jump roping is that I do it right in my back yard, and my kids play while I workout.
As you can see, all of my workouts are at home and involve my children for the most part. I never really worked out at the gym ever in my life. I’m more comfortable, home workouts are just a part of my lifestyle, and it just so happened that after children it really benefits me and my current lifestyle. I workout 3-4 times a week and 30 minute sessions. Some people may feel like you are not as fit as someone who goes to the gym, but that is so not true. In any regard this is what works for me, but some may need a personal trainer, as my husband does, or some may love being around others at the gym, whatever it is, you have to find it.
Hope this helps another mom out there trying to figure out what to do. I am no expert at health or fitness, but I am an expert at being the best me as possible, and I am hoping you will find the best you.
