-Be mindful of products with protein in them, you want little to no protein. And since your hair repels moisture you want products with humectants, which will attract moisture; high emollient and humectant products are a must. And since your cuticle lays flat, you don't want anything that will just sit on your hair weighing it down, so try to use products that are light; sprays, light moisturizers and maybe gel moisturizers. But this is something you will have to play around with seeing what will and won’t work. Also do not use acidic products such as Apple Cider Vinegar rinsing, and Aloe Vera Juice, for this will flatten the hair cuticle even more.
Before we did her hair we thought about what we were going to do to it. Since she wears her hair straight most of the time and rarely wear it curly we decided to straighten it. So we brought out all of the products that we knew would work great for her hair. Remember, her hair needs moisture and possibly a little protein. We didn’t know for sure about the protein until we assessed her hair. And feeling her hair and manipulating it we knew it needed a tad bit, but not a lot. (low porosity hair does get weak). Here is what we did from beginning to end;
Step 2. Washed hair with Morning Joy Cleanser. Morning Joy is very moisturizing and helps to soften the hair cuticle. This is exactly what it did. We only applied to the scalp.
Step 3. Deep Conditioned with Honey Dew Hydrator. This is awesome for Low Porous hair. It is very decadent, and has a great deal of humectants. It will really hydrate the strands. We allowed this to sit for 15-20 minutes with a baggy on.
Step 4. Blow dry. We did not add any product to her hair for this step. One has to be very careful with low porosity hair, because it weighs down easily. For this reason, we used all of our heavy moisturizing products during washing and deep conditioning so it can be fully moisturized when it came to blow drying.
Step 5. Flat iron. This is the step where we added a very small, very small amount of Sweet Velvet Strengthening Mist - Protein Elixir to each section of hair. We were really careful not to overdo it. We felt that her hair needed a little strengthening and also we didn't want to burn out her hair. Sweet Velvet has an abundance of light conditioning oils in it, but it is formulated with one of the best proteins that helps to shield the hair from heat damage and also helps to strengthen the hair, while conditioning it at the same time. We knew this would be perfect for her hair. We set the dial of the flat irons to about 250 degrees. Low porous hair is very light and does not need high heat to get straight. We chose to do loose curls.
We will see you next time as we will be doing something different for someone else.
