I don’t know about you but we scaled down a lot with our regimen. Summer is fast paced, you do a lot of outside activities and so the summer you want things easy and simple. And that is the perfect time because our hair thrives in the hotter and humid temperatures, so we can get away with doing the minimum. But now, we kind of want to start preparing our hair so that it will not be in shock once old man winter comes.
What can you start doing now? With each week and each month you will see very noticeable changes in the weather. And with each week and each month you start adding more and more to your care routine. But the beginning is not so overwhelming, it is as follows;
- So start swapping out some of your products to the more moisture rich ones. Instead of using the lighter oils, butters and stylers, go for the heavier ones, choose the milder shampoo, instead of the clarifier. In the summer you want the light weight curls, that blow in the wind and so it is easy to pick up the gel for your washngo and rub it down with jojoba oil, but not so much for the fall/winter.
- You can also stop using heat, be it blow drying or flat ironing. We do know that people generally turn to straight hair during the winter months, but heat actually will dry your hair out even more. If you do it right, it can be done, but that is another topic for a different day. Heat will take the moisture out of your hair plus the cold air, so you will have 2 things against you. And actually going back and forth between curly and straight hair in our opinion hurts the hair more than helping it. And the effects of it will show further down the road, and then you will have to do a big chop again, and we don't want that.
- Another change is not going out when your hair is wet, the cooler air will take all of the moisture out. Start doing your prep session at night where it will be fully dry in the morning.
Happy Fall! We see a trip to the apple orchard and baking apple pie in the near future. Enjoy the new season!
