How to Perfect Your Wash and Go for Low Porosity Hair
Wash and go’s is the ultimate feeling of freedom. But unfortunately, sometimes it may not be the best for your hair type.
Wash and go’s sometimes may work against you if you have low porosity hair. Not all, but if you have extremely low porosity, you may not be able to get away with the traditional wash and go.
Let’s discuss how it doesn’t work and how you can try to manipulate it so it can work.
Low porosity hair has difficulty absorbing moisture. It will absorb but at a slower rate. It takes a lot more time for what you applied to your hair to actually absorb into the hair cuticle.
This is why braid outs and twist outs will work best for your hair because you are binding the moisture in when you twist and braid and so as the hair dries the moisture is able to get into the cuticle.
When you perform a wash and go, it is difficult for that moisture to absorb into the strand since it is open to the elements. So it ends up sitting on top of the hair strand making your hair feel gritty, sticky and still dry.
How can you prevent this?
- You may just want to stick to braid and twist outs.
- Diffuse the hair after all product has been applied. This helps to open the hair cuticle by giving a little heat helping the moisture to absorb into the hair strand. Caution: You can over diffuse, which can cause damage to the hair and scalp, so don’t do this every day, and make sure the setting is on low.
